Most women hate shopping for that swimsuit that accentuates the good and minimizes the bad. But now it is easier than every to find a flattering swimsuit!

Most women are not a perfect "10", and are usually painfully aware of at least one body flaw. They work hard at the gym to get rid of it, or shop carefully, trying to find clothing that hides it. But when the summer rolls around, that flaw may need the help of a figure flattering or slenderizing swimsuit!

As the Baby-Boomer generation ages, clothing has become increasingly targeted toward camoflaging body flaws. If a bikini just isn't in the stars this year for a woman, there are many other options that are very stylish, slimming and figure enhancing.

Before Shopping for a Figure Flattering Swimsuit:

Before shopping, a woman should take stock of her figure honestly and decide how much exposure she will feel comfortable with. She must realize that this is truly the closest she will ever come to "feeling comfortable in her own skin", literally speaking. Even if, in years past, she has exposed her midriff and bought high-thigh cut bottoms, her figure today may not handle that much nakedness.

Hormones cause women's bodies to change, skin to wrinkle or droop, and discolorations or moles to show up in spots better kept under cover. Another consideration is protecting fair skin to the sun's harmful UV rays if any skin cancers have been removed. But most importantly, every woman should accept who she is today and just make the best of it! Most women are not model perfect!

Flattering Swimsuits That Minimize Specific Body Flaws

There are many lines of swimsuits that are designed to help women with their particular body issue. For each of the following body flaws, consider these suggestions:

  • Swimsuits for Big Breasts - Adequate support is a must! The bodice area should have some type of built-in bra, at very least an elastic undersupport. A criss cross design in the bust area will minimize large breasts and give them a lift. Look for bathing suits with a wider strap to minimize possible dig at the shoulder.
  • Swimsuits for Saggy Stomach - Look for suits with a panel across the tummy area to firm and slenderize the profile. Shirring beneath the breasts will hide small bulges. Rather than a midriff baring suit, pick a tankini or shortini suit.
  • Swimsuits for Heavy Thighs - A swimdress or skirtini has a very youthful look and minimizes the upper leg area, and the flirty skirt hits at a flattering length. Shortinis also minimize thick thighs, and since the suit is really a pair of shorts with a matching swim top that is usually sold as separates, there are more options in mixing solids, patterns and sizes.
  • Swimsuits for Wide Hips - Suits that are cut high on the hip should be avoided; instead, buy a suit that hits at the natural panty line, which slims the hip area. Pick a two-toned suit with the darker shade at the bottom which tricks the eye. Suits with a sarong style bottom hides hip bulge with sassy style.
  • Swimsuits for Plus-Size Bodies - Swimsuit separates give a plus-sized woman more color and size options due to the mix and match nature. Swimdresses offer more coverage and comfort as well.

A woman shouldn't forget the rear view! It's essential to look in the three-way mirror and compare different types of bottoms, straps and backs for the most flattering cut. Afterall, this is the view others will see as she walks away!

Retailers for Flattering or Slimming Swimsuits

Many stores offer figure flattering suits. Some in-store and online retailers to check out are:

  • itfigures.com - suits for all body types
  • Landsend.com - swim minis and swim shorts
  • J C Penney - suits for all body types
  • Kohl's - suits for all body types
  • Spiegel.com - swimdresses
  • Chadwick's - slimming suits and skirtinis

Swimsuits are one wardrobe addition that needs careful consideraton and devoted shopping time. And the classy lady won't forget that matching coverup! As happy as she might be to have found the perfect suit, she wants to lounge in tasteful comfort.
